Karla and Steve’s pre-wedding photo-shoot Macdonald Marine Hotel, North Berwick

As Karla and Steve had travelled north for the Easter weekend to finalize their wedding plans it was the perfect opportunity for us to catch up. With their fourth coming wedding to be held at the Macdonald Marine Hotel, North Berwick, it was the obvious choice for their pre-wedding photo-shoot.

Following a short session indoors, we took a break, chatting through their wedding plans and how the photography would fit into their wedding day, before heading out and making our way down to the beach.

A short walk, a relaxed shoot, great images…the perfect end to a Saturday afternoon.

Alexis & Paul’s Wedding Day at the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh

A  few images that ‘caught my eye’ as I looked over my work from Alexis and Paul’s wedding day yesterday at the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh.   It was a wonderful day - the weather was ‘almost’ perfect, the garden beginning to flourish and Alexis and Paul looked amazing.

Studio Style Portrait Session

Toddlers and balloons are a great mix!

Reviewing the images from last weekend’s studio style shoot in Pencaitland, East Lothian.

Great session – hard work, as all shoots involving very young children can be – but great fun.  All toddlers are very individual – you never know how it will go and what you’re going to get – but that’s half the fun.

Angela and William’s pre-wedding photo-shoot in Pencaitland, East Lothian

It was a cold February day in Pencaitland, East Lothian, when Angela, William and myself ventured out for a relaxed pre-wedding photo session.  Their wedding is only a few months away, so it was a perfect opportunity to get out and try some shots together.

Pre-wedding photo-shoots are a great way for couples and their photographer to get to know each other a little better before the wedding day.  Following the session, couples are able to view some great images of themselves, something to look back on in years to come, but more importantly they are, hopefully, less apprehensive about the photography on their wedding day.

A busy photographic week or two around East Lothian…

It’s been a busy photographic week or two in East Lothian for me with photo-shoots, meeting couples and attending wedding fayres. The Macdonald Marine Hotel, North Berwick, and the Maitlandfield House Hotel in Haddington, were two wedding fayres I was fortunate to attend.

Away from East Lothian, I was also invited to exhibit at Orocco Pier, South Queensferry. Another great day out by the sea!

All these venues are very different, each with their own unique, interesting and varied photographic opportunities. The one thing these venues have in common is great customer service and friendly staff. As a professional working in venues it makes such a difference to the day when all around are friendly, conscientious and equally professional at what they do.

For me, the wedding fayres are an enjoyable break from the norm. It’s great to be able to spend an afternoon chatting with enthusiastic and excited couples who are embarking on their new life together…and hopefully, I will be lucky enough to photograph their special day. Capturing, and at times creating, wonderful images of that day.

Please give me a call, or email, if you would like to discuss the photography of your day and how, together, we can make it special and unique to you.

Janet and Ian’s wedding day at the Marine Hotel, North Berwick, East Lothian…

The MacDonald Marine Hotel in North Berwick was the venue of choice for Janet and Ian’s wedding celebration last weekend.  I’m sure Janet and Ian’s wedding would have been a wonderful occasion wherever it was held, however the Marine simply adds that extra layer of icing on the cake.  It’s elegant decor combined with stunning views create fantastic opportunities to capture amazing images.

Janet and Ian put their trust in me to record their special day ‘from my eyes’ and if they love the images as much as I do, then I’m sure they’ll be delighted.

A few images from the day…

model headshots

I was asked by the model team, based in Glasgow, to take some headshots of one of their models.  As Jamie is based in central Edinburgh we decided it would be easier for me to create a studio environment in his home.  As with most of my sessions, it was very relaxed with the end result being some great headshots.Jamie’s fortunate to be heading off to Milan in the near future, so I’m sure some interesting, challenging and fun times lie ahead!

Frame Your Photographs

With photographs, large is best!

Take your favourite photographs, print large and place in a good quality frame.  It’s simply the best way to display your family images and brighten up your home with something very unique and extremely personal.

Family Photo-shoot

A great way to spend Sunday morning…photographing all the fun and laughter of a family gathering.

All to often we don’t spend enough time with the ones that matter most, so when I’m asked to photograph a family it’s a real privilege.  I spent a very relaxed morning capturing these images.

Unlike the Soaps this wedding went without a hitch!

I thought I’d better post these pictures separately from the main wedding pics.  As a major Soap fan, Antonia informed me that these were the most important from the day!

The boys – Coronation Street star, Sam (Chesney) Aston and Nick Pickard, aka Tony Hutchinson from Hollyoaks - were in Scotland for a charity football match.  Needless to say they attracted a lot of attention and requests for photographs, however the duo were more than happy to make Antonia’s day extra special by posing for a few personal photographs.

Antonia & Colin’s Wedding Day

The beginning of October saw me attending a wedding that I had been looking forward to for some time.  Colin is a fantastic singer I’ve known for around two years now, so to be able to capture images of this special day was a real privilege.

Every wedding I attend is filled with a range of emotions by the, soon to be, newlyweds and this was no exception.  From nervous apprehension, fun, laughter, love…and lots of rain too, but that didn’t detract from an absolutely fantastic day.  Antonia and Colin were so easy to work with and I have to thank them for agreeing to go out in all that rain for some really special images.  The MacDonald Houston House Hotel, Uphall is one venue where, no matter what the weather, as a photographer you want to shoot those outside images which capture the majestic charm of the instantly recognisable architecture.

Once I finished working, it was down with the camera and a chance for me to relax and see the evening reception through to the wee small hours.

Once again, congratulations to you both and I wish you all the very best of health and happiness in your life together.

Viv & Mike’s Wedding Day

Finally managed to find time to post these images from a wedding I was fortunate to be asked to photograph late September.  The Stair Arms near Pathhead was a wonderful setting for this relaxed and intimate family day.  Viv, Mike and their family were a joy to work with – something which is reflected in all the fun and laughter captured in the amazing final images I am about to present to them.

A time of reflection

Whenever I’m asked to do a family portrait I feel it’s important to capture the individual personalities within the family.  This framed image, shot at the weekend, was a quiet moment of reflection during a very fun time.  The photograph captures perfectly one aspect of this young teenager’s personality.

We spent time photographing the family around the home, then headed off to the beach…the weather held out for us, thank goodness.

This shot is one from a series of ‘album cover style’ photographs taken on the waterfront, linking in with the family’s musical side…going for a slightly more ‘disconnected’ family image.

A collection of images from my wedding portfolio

I thought I would post a few images from my website portfolio; a handful of photographs from the many weddings I have been lucky to attend in recent times.

Ride Out

Never a dull moment as a photographer, from observing the indescribable emotions between parent(s) and newborn child, to the fun and laughter when capturing images of a family gathering, wedding or fun event like this ride out by Dalkeith and District Scooter Club.

Following the shoot I put together samples of how their fantastic images would look framed.  Certainly worth seriously considering having your photographer frame your favourite images.  The quality and longevity of print will make the investment worth while.

Actors Headshots

One really big plus in being a portrait photographer is that you meet so many interesting people, chat and then have a great time photographing them.

2011 has been an interesting year so far.  Before the summer Shian Denovan, a Scottish actress based in London, asked me to do some headshots for her portfolio.  Have posted one of her favourites from the day.

No.1 in the World

This month saw my nephew, Kyle Warren, successfully compete with world renowned pipe band Field Marshal Montgomery. With a truly outstanding performance FMM walked away with the prestigious world title at Glasgow Green.

In between his travels with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers and promoting his own, newly released, album ‘WANTED,’ I grabbed him for a quick photo shoot.

Taste of Scotland

As the world famous Edinburgh fringe draws to a close, and the streets of Auld Reekie look forward to returning to some normality, that is if you are somehow able to forget the Tram works, one show still remains – the world famous ’Taste of Scotland’ show.  With performances from April through to October and on many a night it’s 500 seat venue – the Stables at Prestonfield House Hotel - filled to capacity with audiences from around the globe, it truly is world famous.

I was fortunate to be asked to photograph the cast this year, so here’s just a couple of shots.  No images of the show I’m afraid, you’ll have to check that one out for yourself.

Check out the Taste of Scotland show.

a great day out…

I’ve been looking back at some of my recent work over the summer. Photographed at the Marine Hotel, North Berwick this was a great day out. The couple, Fergal and Kelly, were fantastic to work with, making my job a lot easier and far more enjoyable, with the end result being some wonderful memories and amazing photographs.
