Photography
My interest in photography goes back to my teenage years when I would always purchase cameras that looked like they had been modelled on pro SLR’s but at a fraction of the cost.
It was on a trip to Australia, upon capturing a sunset shot of Sydney Harbour Bridge, that I began to appreciate the power of the camera and the images it could create – in the right hands…not mine at that time.
My first career had been music, something that ‘still runs through my veins,’ so it was many years on from my fantastic trip to Australia before I took up the camera as a new and exciting career.
I moved for a, relatively speaking, brief spell into journalism/photographer – I wouldn’t say photojournalism as the written word was my main role, however I always took great satisfaction in viewing my images on the printed page.
From that time on it was workshops, seminars and training days before taking on assignments to further my photographic experience and develop my skills. I was fortunate to get on board with a fantastic and inspirational photographer called David Ho – check him out when you get a chance. David and I still meet up to look at work and I still go out on assignments on his behalf.
Out of all the work I do, weddings are the greatest photographic challenge. My leap into this special family time was made easier through my years of musical experience on the wedding scene. Dealing with ever-changing lighting conditions, shifting weather patterns, and time constraints – to mention but a few challenges - all come together to make wedding photography an extremely challenging, yet fun and fulfilling day.
Now four years on from going it alone as a wedding, portrait and event photographer my work is going from strength to strength, all be it within the constraints of these hard economic times. Professional photography is, at times, daunting, challenging, extremely hard work, yet fun and exciting and I wouldn’t change a thing…
…well I would, but I’m not going to let you know what, until I do!
